Typography has always been something that has fascinated me, so when I took my typography class at SNHU as a part of my Graphic Design degree I was excited and ready for the challange. Our project for the term was to take a picture of a fictional character and transform the picture into a word portrait, making the likeness completely out of words that described the character, or even their own words.

One of my favorite downtime activities is reading, and one of my most loved books and main chracters is "Pride and Prejudice"'s Elizabeth Bennet. There have been many film adaptations of the novel, but after a lot of reflection, and watching several of the different versions, much to the dismay of my family, I chose to use Keira Knightly's 2004 portrayal and likeness to transform into the word portrait.

I did research and discovered that the typeface used in the original publication of the novell was Caslon, whic was redesigned in the 1990's for digital use to Adobe Caslon Pro. I pulled notable quotes made by Elizabeth Bennet in the novel that I wanted to use. Using Photoshop, I chaned the image to shadows. After transfering the shaadows into Illustrator, I created outlines of the shapes and seperated the different segments even further. Once theat was done I inserted the words into the segments using "Fit to Frame", and I created lines with the "Type on the Path" tool to create the desired effects.

It was a difficult project that I took absolute pleasure in working on. I was quite proud with the results of it. I feel that this project is a fantastic example of what I can bring to a project as a designer.
